Foliage:Mid green lance-shaped leaves with dark blotch near the centre, 4-15 cm x 7-25 mm, margins and main veins bristly.
Flowers:Deep Pink narrow cylindric, dense erect terminal spikes 2-6 cm long of tiny flowers on stalk 2-6 cm long. Flowers most of the year, peaking December to April
General
Comments:

Erect to spreading perennial herb forming thickets. Sheath at base of leaf bristly along top margin. Excellent waterbird habitat. Can be used in wet depressions or around farm dams. Birds like the leaves and seeds, good frog habitat.

Likely pollinators of its flowers are insects, including honeybees, native bees, flies, wasps and small butterflies.
