Foliage:Flat or inrolled green to bluish-green leaves, rough on upper surface, sometimes hairy. Leaf sheath has ear-like appendages encircling the stem.
Flowers:Narrow spike of 1-10 distant 6-12-flowered spikelets to 4-8 cm long including bristles; pair of lower bracts veined, 3 on lower, 3-5 on upper; lower floral bract tapered to a rough flattened bristle, basal tuft of hairs, October-January, Green, becoming straw-coloured
General
Comments:

Open tufted perennial grass. Flowering stems upright or drooping.  Food plant for caterpillars.  Plant in drifts with other grasses and herbs under established trees.
