A hardy ornamental shrub or small tree with fibrous bark providing attractive foliage contrast in the garden.  May be pruned to shape or to encourage bushiness.  Useful as a hedge, screening plant or for erosion control along creeks and gullies. Good habitat plant. Frost tolerant.

Birds are attracted to the insects this plant attracts. An excellent shrub for moist areas but tolerates dryer garden conditions. Attractive flowers and foliage.
